Indispensable, Are You?

Have you ever felt that you are indispensable? or for that matter still feel that you are indispensable, to your family, your job, your church, your ______ (you name it). Will your organization crawl to a stop if you quit your job today, or heaven forbid die today?

Chances are that life will continue, someone else will take your place, the organization will continue running, your church will as well…no doubt a sad loss but continue they will, no matter how good you are.

So be humble my friend, be the best that you can be. Know that it is quite okay to be proud of your work and who you are and what you represent. However always remember that there is no Indispensable man.

I heard this poem below a few days ago and wow it was just so real for me, after working in Corporate America for 26 years and with my transition out ….. whew. My company is getting on quite fine without me … Take my hand out of the bucket and the water flows right back in. Life continues and rightly so!

The Indispensable Man

by Saxon White Kessinger

Sometime when you’re feeling important; Sometime when your ego ‘s in bloom; Sometime when you take it for granted, You’re the best qualified in the room: Sometime when you feel that your going, Would leave an unfillable hole, Just follow these simple instructions, And see how they humble your soul.

Take a bucket and fill it with water, Put your hand in it up to the wrist, Pull it out and the hole that’s remaining, Is a measure of how much you’ll be missed. You can splash all you wish when you enter, You may stir up the water galore, But stop, and you’ll find that in no time, It looks quite the same as before.

Think about it for a minute

What would life be if there were indispensable men?

Think of all the great women and men that have travelled this earth and passed on, imagine our fate as a civilization if there was such a thing as an indispensable man.

No need to fear, there’s not such a thing…

Life axis will continue spinning

So live your best live, shine your light bright,

make a difference in the lives of those around you

leave a legacy for all to see

be of significance by enlarging others

Yes! you will be missed by the people whose lives you have touched.

Carry on my friend, just know there is no Ind
